Packing for a Himalayan Road Trip: The Only List You Need

A Himalayan road trip can swing from 28°C at lunch to 2°C by the time you park. Pack for both.

Layers, not bulk

  1. A merino or synthetic base layer
  2. A light fleece mid-layer
  3. A windproof, water-resistant shell

That combination handles almost everything the mountains throw at you.

Don't forget

  • Physical copies of your ID (permits are checked offline)
  • A power bank — charging points are scarce past Kaza
  • Sunscreen and lip balm (the altitude sun is fierce)
  • Anything you'd be sad to lose on a bumpy road

The single most-forgotten item on our trips? Sunglasses. The glare off snow and river is no joke.
